SFL Round 2 – gala report

Congratulations to all 20 swimmers who took part in the SFL final at Newmarket on Saturday evening. Bottisham finished the evening in third place, and we could easily have been second if a few things had worked out differently on the night, so everyone should feel very proud of themselves – it was a great way to start the new term.

There were some fantastic swims. Out of the 47 events we won or came second in 24 (that’s over half!). The junior girls took first place in their 4 x 25m freestyle relay again, and Anouk, Ellen C, Faith, Nick and Tom Mc all won at least one of their individual races.

There were plenty of PBs over the course of the evening (19 to be precise), with Faith and Ithan topping the tree with 3 each, Nina, Nick and Tom Mc walking away with 2 each and Anna I, Ellen C, Ellen H, Freddie, Josh, Luna, Matthew, Jacob, Molly, and Youri earning 1 each.

And as if all that wasn’t enough there were 5 new Club Records set as well. Faith (13) set new records in the 100m IM, the 100m butterfly and the 100m breaststroke, and Tom Mc (17) set new records in the 100m breaststroke and the 100m freestyle.

A special mention goes to Ithan who was swimming in his very first gala. He was unfortunately our only 10/u boy so bravely agreed to swim 3 individual races as well as the fast and furious cannon relay at the end. Not only did he swim incredibly well, but also he even took second place in the 50m breaststroke!

Thanks too to all the parents who helped on the night; David, Sharon and Carol for officiating, and Anne-Marie and Rob McCubbin for making sure all the swimmers were in the right place at the right time. And of course to coach Karl for supporting the swimmers on the night, and for all your hard work during the season.
