Newmarket Open – gala report

Congratulations to all swimmers who took part in the Newmarket Open last weekend in a final attempt to grab or improve those county times.  We had an amazing weekend’s swimming and finished as 5th best club – a fabulous achievement!

You can find the full results for all events here. Bottisham swimmers achieved 59 PBs – remarkable so soon after the massive PB count at club champs; 46 medals (wow!) and 8 new club records, including 5 new all-time fastest Bottisham girls’ swims…

PBs! – well done to the following…

Faith – who topped the PB leader-board this time with a stupendous six PBs;
Matteo, Phoebe E, George, Katie and Holly who each got a fantastic four;
Kieran, Ella G, Tashie and Anna N each got a thrilling three;
Luna, Thomas C, Anouk, Megan H, Yvonne, Patryk and Nick each got a toptastic two; and
Jack H, Emily, Ellen H, Molly, Tara, Milly, Sasha and Ollie achieved a wonderful one PB each.  Great work, all swimmers.

Medals!

Topping the medals table as usual despite scoring only 2 PBs and being really quite tired was Anouk, who achieved five golds (including all the 50s), two silvers and three bronze and had a really good punt at the ‘Top Girl’ award.  Awesome!  Next was
Faith who got 2 golds, 6 silvers and a bronze;
George with a gold, 4 silvers and a bronze;
Nick with a gold and a silver;
Holly with a gold and two bronzes;
Ella G and Kieran each with a gold and a bronze;
Molly with a gold;
Jack with a silver and three bronze;
Emily and Mary O each with a silver;
Yvonne with three bronze;
Justine with two bronze; and
Thomas M with one bronze.

Club records!

Well done to Faith and Anouk! Faith took a new age 13 club record in 50 free, and new age 13 and all-time girls’ club records in 100 IM, 200 IM, 100 fly, 200 fly and 200 breast; and Anouk’s two PBs got her club records in the age 10 100 breast and 200 back.  Faith beware, she’s about to start on your age 11s :-). Congratulations, girls!

All times are now on the database.

Thank you to all parents who helped out by officiating, being in the hall, or working the computers with Chris.  Your help is hugely appreciated – it makes us a popular club to have around.  So thank you!  And a special thank you to Coach Karl for giving up another weekend, and to Carol for covering training, as well as officiating at Newmarket in the morning.

Karl is going to do all the clever stuff with the county times.  The county pack is still not out but the races will be on Sat/Sun 13/14 January (Whittlesey), Sat 27 January (Parkside) and Sat 24 February (Parkside).  When I have more information, you shall have it! It looks like entries will need to be done super-quickly over the next couple of weeks, so do keep your eyes open for the email.

And for completeness… we now have our rightful JFL 2nd place trophy after an exchange took place at the weekend!  So well done again, JFL team, for that!
