Well done to all 30 swimmers from Sunday who took part in Newmarket’s Centenary Open, helping them celebrate running for 100 years.
It was great to have nearly a third of the club come along. We had some brilliant results and as it was only sprints it’s a great way to see what we need to work on for the future.
PBs: We achieved a brilliant 51 Pbs, which brings our total so far for 2018 to 210.
4 – Anna I-K; Phoebe E; Millie; Faith
3 – Lucia; Emily; Sam; Livvy; Patryk; Joseph; Sasha
2 – Alex; Lewis K; Grace S; Nick;
1 – Matthew; Jack H; Phoebe N; Megan T; Andrew; Josh
Medals and top six finishes:
Nick topped the tree with two golds in back and fly, a bronze in breaststroke and two fourths in free and IM; Faith got a gold in breaststroke, two silvers in fly and IM, a bronze in backstroke and a fourth in free; Phoebe E got a gold in her backstroke by two whole seconds(!) and fifth and sixth places in her free and IM; Jack got a silver in breaststroke and fifth in fly;
Lauren got a bronze in breaststroke in her last competitive swim (sob);
other top six finishers were Lewis K, Lucia, Tara (twice!) and Sasha. Great work.
Club records –
Faith continued to cement her place in the record books by lowered 3 all-time girls club records in 50 breast, 50 fly and 100 IM, and took the girls 50 back record for her first time ever!
This brings our total club records beaten for 2018 to 22.
A special mention must go towards 4 swimmers for taking a huge chunk of their PB’s:
Lewis Kincaid, taking off 5 seconds in his 50m Back
Milly Robinson, taking off 5 seconds in her 50m Breast
Livia Marsden, taking off 7 seconds in her 100m IM
Phoebe Edwards, taking off 9 seconds in her 100m IM
Also, as I mentioned earlier this was Lauren Chapmans last race with the club and what a great way to end with a medal.
Thank you to all the team managers/ helpers for organising the swimmers in the hall and to all the officials for volunteering. We are back at Newmarket on the 7th April for the next competition.
