Gala report – Nifty Fifties

Bottisham Swimming Club had a great time at Thetford’s season-opening Nifty Fifties gala on Sunday. We had a great team of 25 swimmers and here are the results.  Special ‘well dones’ go to Patryk, swimming awesomely in his first BSC gala; Matthew for taking a whopping 11 seconds off his 100 IM pb; Jack for his first 50-fly under 40 seconds; and Nick for his first 100 IM under 1 minute 20.  There were many other great performances, especially as it’s the start of the season.

PBs as follows:

4: huge congratulations to Patryk, Mary O, and Youri;
3: well done to Livvy, Izzy, Eleanor, Freddy M, Matthew C, Jacob and Nick;
2: great work to Anouk, Anna N, Tom C and Ethan; and
1: a round of applause to Ella G, Tara, Ellen C, Yvonne and Jack H.

Club records:

Anouk’s two PBs in 100 IM and 50 fly were also new club records for an age 10 girl.

Bling:

The great thing about Thetford is that there are trophies for those who come 1st, 2nd or 3rd in their age group, and medals also for 4th, 5th and 6th place. So those coming away from Thetford with metalwork were:

Pippa – 6th in 50 breast;
Jack – 3rd in 50 breast;
Faith – 3rd in 50 fly; 5th in 50 free; 6th in 50 breast;
Nick – a full house of bling – 6th in 50 fly, 5th in 50 free and 50 breast; and 3rd in 50 back and 100 IM; and
…. well, the day belonged to Anouk really! Our pocket rocket started gently with a 2nd in the 50 back, before sweeping the board with first places in every other race – the most special one being a win by 10 whole seconds in the 50 fly. Well done Anouk!

The other notable thing about this day was that not a single Bottisham swimmer was disqualified in any race. This is a brilliant achievement – well done to you all, and also to Coach Karl…

Thanks go to Fay for helping out poolside, and to Gordon and Emma for spending the day watching turns.  All times are now on SCM. Next up we’ve got the JFL Round 5 next weekend and the SFL Final the week after – then West Suffolk at the end of the month.  Keep up the good work!
