Karl says: Well done to all the swimmers who took part in the Cambridge Mini Meet. The Meet wasn’t about the results, it was about swimmers seeing what competitions are like and enjoying themselves.
For those who didn’t get the results they wanted don’t worry. As you will learn even swimmers who have been competing for years get disappointed for not hitting a target, but if you keep trying and pushing yourselves one day it all comes together.
We did have some really good swims so let’s start with the PB’s:
Topping the leader board with 4 we have – Justin
Close behind with 3 we have – Anoushka, Freddy, Cassidy and Lilla
Coming away with a great 2 we have – Rebekah, Grace, Arwen, Madaline
Finishing with a brilliant 1 – Ithan, Alex, Sam, Livia, Katie, Megan, Andrew, Mya, Freya, Anouk.
We also had some medallists along the way to start off their collection:
Anouk got 3 Golds and a Silver; Lilla and Katie both got a Silver and 2 Bronze; Grace with a Silver and a Bronze; Freddy with 2 Bronze; Mya with a Silver, and Freya with a Bronze.
Anouk’s 100m free race was a new club record in age 10 – well done.
If anyone wants to talk to me about the gala or their results please see me ASAP. Remember it’s only the start of the journey.
Last but not least a big well done to those who are now qualified time keepers: Jamie, Ellen, Bethan and Sasha. Thanks also to officials Sharon, Fay, Simon, Mary O, Suzy and Emma and to Sally as team manager.
In order to get some race practice and technique feedback, the training sessions on Wednesday 1 November for C and B squads will be a mini-gala, where we will be timing and providing feedback on swimmers’ racing. This will also enable us to get more of our timekeepers qualified! Please will all junior coaches and qualified timekeepers consider attending if you can from 6pm – we need coaches to give feedback, and timekeepers to measure our new trainees against. Many thanks.
I’ve had a response from the Gala organiser for our New Year meet on 7 January who says she looks forward to seeing us. So fingers crossed we’re all in – we have 51 swimmers signed up, which I think is a club record for anything other than Club Champs. Awesome! Please pay if you haven’t yet done so – you’ll find an invoice on SCM.
I’ve got confirmed entries for Newmarket on 2/3 December – these will go out shortly via SCM to all those coming along.
We’ll be looking for officials and team managers to help out at both of these meets – more details to follow for those coming along.
The deadline for the first two sessions of club champs has now passed – we have 67 competing in at least one race on 8 or 9 November, which is wonderful. The deadline for sessions 3 and 4 on Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 November is next Monday, 30 October 2017; the final deadline for our Sprints and Celebration evening on Saturday 18 November is Saturday 4 November – please do sign up and join us!
Sharon will be looking for volunteers to help out on the evenings of club champs: positions available include warm-up marshalls, race marshalls, announcer, results runner; for the Newmarket evening, we’ll also be looking for people to help out on the door, with results recording and with the raffle. Watch out for Sharon’s email or please do contact me by replying to this email if you’re happy to be involved and I will pass the message on.
