BWFSC New Year Meet 2018

IMG_8643What a great start to the year.

On Sunday, we took an amazing 48 swimmers to the Olympic Pool (London Aquatics Centre).

It was a great day with such an amazing venue and good experience for everyone, especially the younger swimmers who some have never seen a 50m pool let alone swam in one. Well done for giving it a go even though it may have been scary.

We even managed to come away with a brilliant 21 Medals, 61 PB’s and 3 club records, I couldn’t ask for a better way to begin 2018. PB’s are really hard to get in a 50m pool.

Thanks to the team managers, Land Coach Nathaniel, the parents who volunteered to be marshalls and officials, and Ciara for helping everything run smoothly.

Carol Barrios honoured by ASA East

I’m really proud to report that last Saturday, Carol Barrios was awarded the ASA’s Silver Pin award for services to swimming as a volunteer.  Over the years Carol has played a huge part in the development of Bottisham Swimming Club, as Club Secretary and Club Chair in the past, and now as meets coordinator, official and coach. She is also the Cambridgeshire ASA’s nominated point of contact for issues regarding swimmer welfare.  She was presented with the award at a ceremony in Freckenham in the company of many other esteemed award-winners, including a couple of other ‘friends of the club’: David Robinson of Mildenhall, who was presented with the Lifetime Achievement award for refereeing and his involvement in the Fenland Leagues for over 20 years, and Chris Bellwood of Newmarket & District Swimming Club, who was also honoured with the silver pin for his support of swimming in the East in a volunteer capacity.

The committee’s heartfelt thanks go to Carol, and also to all our other volunteers: coaches, committee, officials, and gala and poolside helpers. The swimmers can’t swim without the gifts of your time and expertise – thank you!

(Hope these photos come out the right way up this time…)

Congratulations to our new coaches!

Bottisham SC is proud to announce that we have seven – count ’em! – new qualified swim coaches within the club.  A big well done to senior swimmers Megan Barrios, Sophie Morris, Thomas McCubbin, Pippa Brand and Luke Morris, and grown-ups Alex Bevis and Simon Morris who all qualified last weekend as Level 1 coaches. Respect to you all!  See you poolside!
