We are now in three Leagues: Junior Fenland League (JFL), Senior Fenland League (SFL) and Anglian League. The JFL is for swimmers aged 9-13 (age on day of final competition) and consists of 5 competitions. The League has 'cut-off' times which may prevent a few of our fastest swimmers from taking part.
The Anglian League takes-up where the JFL finishes and includes swimmers aged 13/U to Open age group. Again there are cut-offs that exclude the very fastest from a few events. This is our first year in the Anglian League. Most races are 100m with 200IM, except for the Open age group where the races are 50m and 100IM.
The SFL covers the complete age range and has a mixture of races including relays. Our 13-15 year old boys usually put on a very good show in the relays.
We also have the Club Championships in December - an important fixture for selecting teams the following year.
As well as these 14 events above, there are a few Open events where swimmers compete as individuals rather than as part of a team. Whilst there are many Open events the most enjoyable and well attended is the Cambridge Open which takes place over a weekend in July. It is a great way to experience real competition! The races are graded by submitted times rather than age groups, so no matter what your level you won't be far behind the other swimmers in your heat. The event is efficiently run, and has many hundreds of participants from an ~100mile radius. We usually take around 10 swimmers who are very vocal in supporting each other. Last year we had a good collection of medals from both the boys and girls. I recommend it for a fun day out!
Finally we have a few informal team competitions throughout the year. Typically against clubs like Newmarket, Ely and March. So far this year we have confirmed the Copleys Cup (Huntingdon Piranas) which is available to swimmers who do not swim in the JFL/SFL. This gala is specifically aimed at Novice swimmers and has 'cut-offs' that exclude our more experienced swimmers.
